Presentation of the lecturer at the seminars

Mary Parker – Classicus Salukis

I came into the breed in 1981, a time when salukis in the UK were the envy of the world for their type and depth of quality. I learned about salukis from some of the most knowledge people in the world at that time and was lucky enough to see some of the all-time greats in the breed. I have owned 12 UK champions and bred multiple champions and international champions as well as a Grand US champion. I have been the UK's top saluki breeder in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, there was no competition in 2020 and am leading so far in 2022. I have been the Secretary and committee member of the Saluki or Gazelle Hound Club, and the editor of The Saluki magazine. I have also been a committee member of the Northern Saluki Club and the editor of their yearbook. The health of our beloved breed is important to me as is education, I was an educationalist in my professional life, and I have presented educational webinars as well as writing a highly acclaimed Illustrated Saluki Breed Standard booklet.

Wendy Duggan, Kyzyl Kum Salukis, USA

I got my first Saluki in 1974. I have been married to Brian since 1979. In limited breeding we have finished almost 40 conformation champions, and various lure and open field coursing titles. We bred the very first Smooth to win our National Specialty (in an entry of close to 500 dogs), Ch Kyzyl Kum Phaedra, who was also a remarkable open field courser. Over the years we have had many specialty wins, most memorable were Winners and BOS at the 1993 National with Ch Kyzyl Kum Naziir (who was not quite 13 months of age!), and Winners and BOS at the 1998 National with Ch Kyzyl Kum Omaille. And of course, our beloved GCh Kyzyl Kum Temujin, a specialty BOB winner, as well as multiple BOS and Select awards.
We have imported two bitches from outside the US to add to our breeding program over the years, Glenoak Ildico from the UK and Dual Ch Tezzy av Vilje og Ve SC from Norway, who has proven to be a wonderful lure courser.
Our breeding program has slowed down considerably as we have aged, but we hope to still breed a few more litters.
